E*Trade launches Israeli site

E*Trade made a foray into the Middle East on Tuesday by launching E*Trade Israel, a Hebrew and English-language online trading site. E*Trade Israel will offer trading of equities and warrants on all major U.S. exchanges including the Nasdaq. Later this year, E*Trade said it will add trading on the Tel Aviv Stock Exchange. Israel is an attractive market because more than 19 percent of the country's population are Internet users, according to market research firm Taylor Nelson Sofres Teleseker. Of those Web users, about 20 percent made financial transactions online. E*Trade operates online brokerages in 11 foreign countries including Korea, the United Kingdom, and South Africa.
