Erratic trackpad behavior when Intel-based Macs are running Windows (Boot Camp/Parallels)

Some users have reported erratic trackpad behavior when their Intel-based Macs are running Windows -- either through Apple's Boot Camp Beta or Parallels Desktop for Mac OS X.

MacFixit reader Glen Thompson writes: "So my trackpad on my new MacBook goes crazy after about 20 minutes of windows usage, any fixes?"

In many cases, simply rubbing a hand across the entire trackpad in a wiping motion, oddly, resolves this issue temporarily. This is presumably the the result of a trackpad reset, which (according to Knowledge Base article #301047 can be accomplished by "placing your entire palm directly onto the whole trackpad for 3 to 4 seconds, and then remov(ing) your hand from the trackpad in one smooth motion."

You can also try eliminating static interference with a cleaner, but this solution is unlikely to be effective if the problem does not manifest under Mac OS X as well.
