Epson printers do not support Ethernet 10/100 autosensing hubs?

Mark Ellis-Jones writes: "According to Epson UK Technical Support, the (optional at huge extra cost) Ethernet card which they manufacture for all Epson Stylus printers, does not support 10/100 autosensing hubs. When connected to an autosensing hub (we have tried BayStack 250/T and Asanté Intrastack 6014DSB), the card gets very confused and enters an error state.

The solution is to connect a small, 10BaseT hub with an uplink port to the autosensing hub and use one of the 10BaseT ports to conect to the printer. This is usually easier and more effective than reconfiguring the main hub not to autosense on one particular port."

Update: Shannon Calvert adds: "Epson announced new 10/100base-T cards last week and the problem may not occur with them. Note also that the serial port connection is actually faster than 10base-T - according to Epson."

Update: David Luckhardt adds: "The newly released cards do work with autosensing! And Ellis-Jones suggested work-around for the older cards does not always work. I tried it with an older Stylus XL and our new Cisco switches and an old Dave Express hub and it didn't work."
