Epson paper color shifts

Pete Kunasz writes: "For those who bought the Epson Photo 1270 or Epson Photo 870 printers and purchased 'Epson Premium Glossy Photo Paper,' the paper that Epson said when used with these printers would result in 'Years and years of fade resistant prints,' be aware that there appears to be a fault with that paper type, in whatever size, that results in a large immediate (within hours) color shift when the paper is exposed to normal moisture in the air after printing. The more humid the air, the faster the color shift. Epson is aware of the problem but is not offering any solutions other than replacing the paper with other paper types, like Glossy Film - and replacing the ink used on the faulty paper." We requested confirmation of this from Epson. They said they would check into it, but never got back to us after that. Update: John Etnier had this same problem and received this reply from Epson: "We have received a few inquires regarding an orange color shift on our Premium Glossy Photo Paper. This color shift is due to the exposure of the unprotected print to some atmospheric contaminants, specifically high concentrations of ozone. This shift is not caused by exposure to light. As stated in the manual, Epson recommends that the prints be placed in a glass frame, stored in a photo album, or inserted in a protective sleeve after printing. If you are experiencing this type of color shift and for some reason cannot protect the print, Epson's Matte Paper - Heavyweight and Epson's Photo Paper offer much more resistance to these atmospheric contaminants."
