Fairfax has reported that chairwoman Siobhan McKenna and the rest of the board have submitted their resignations amid an environment where Communications Minister Turnbull has suggested a lack of confidence in the company's leadership. Turnbull has yet to formally accept the resignations, and a decision is expected to be made at a Cabinet meeting in October.

Reports also suggest that former Telstra boss Ziggy Switkowski is likely to be appointed executive chairman. Minister Turnbull indicated before the election that Doctor Switkowski would be well suited to the role.

The Coalition plans on a major restructure of the NBN Co project from a planned fibre-to-the-home network to a fibre-to-the-node option.
