Energy Saver auto shut down bug (and a work-around)

Tim Ebright writes: "Energy Saver 2.0.5 (the version that ships with Mac OS 8) would attempt an auto shut down as scheduled, including all warnings of ensuing shut down. Except it would not actually shut down." It seemed to Tim that this was "most likely because it sensed that the computer was still in use by the Global Village Phone Engine Extension and could not quit this 'program.' Apple tech support told him that they had experienced similar problems with other users and different types of programs. The current work-around is to go back to an earlier version of Energy Saver." He tried this and it worked.
