eMac raster shift problem continues?

At the end of last month we first publicized a fix for the widely reported eMac raster shift issue. The fix involves the replacement of a single cable - the IVAD cable - via a soldering process that requires an Apple authorized technician.

We are now hearing rumblings that the replacement cable is still exhibiting the problem for some users, though the culprit may very well be improper installation from service centers. Daniel Pratt writes:

"I am still encountering the raster shift problem prevalent in the eMacs. Even after replacement of the IVAD cable the problem resumed. Either the IVAD cable replacement is not the correct fix, is not the entire fix, or the technicians at the Apple Store, Milwaukee are incapable of servicing our eMac properly."

The "raster shift" problem, as it has been dubbed on a number of discussion boards and in letters we've receive - occurs in anywhere from 15 to 60 percent of in-dealer inventories according to a MacFixIt poll of resellers.

In most cases, the problem causes the bottom third or half of the screen to go black, with the rest of image shifting upward and out is de the top boundary of the display. Serious static also accompanies the problem, rendering the viewable part of the screen virtually useless.
