Eliminating black boxes in the Finder

CNET staff

A MacFixIt reader recently reported a problem where black boxes periodically appear around items in the Finder -- including icons and menu items.

It appears that in some cases, this issue is caused by the user inadvertently activating VoiceOver functionality. You can toggle this capability by pressing the Command () and F5 keys simultaneously.

You may also want to try deleting files that start with com.apple.LaunchServices (in /Library/Caches).
