Elgato hardware video encoder now supports iPhone

Elgato has has released a free software update that enables iPhone-formatted export for the Turbo.264, a hardware video encoding accelerator that comes in the form of a USB stick. Two iPhone presets follow Apple's recommendations; 4:3 source material produces 480x360 pixel video, 16:9 source is encoded as 480 x 270 pixels. You can also set, save, and name your own presets, and choose video parameters such as size, aspect ratio, frame rate and bit rate, as well as audio encoding parameters, and save those settings for future exports.

The company claims the Turbo.264 accelerates video conversion on the Mac by a factor of 4 to 10. It supports all Macs with USB 2.0 ports. In addition to including its own video conversion software, the device can accelerate export from QuickTime-supported apps including iMovie, QuickTime Player Pro, Final Cut Pro and EyeTV.

Elgato Turbo.264 is priced at $100.
