Google's latest partnership with an appliance manufacturer puts the tech giant one step closer to running your smart home.

Electrolux has joined the Early Access Program for Brillo, Google's operating system for the Internet of Things. The manufacturer announced the partnership this week here at the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas. Electrolux's connected ovens, which are available in Europe, will be among the first appliances to use Brillo.

Google first revealed the development of Brillo at its 2015 I/O developers' conference. The platform is designed to unify smart home controls on your Android device, similar to what Apple is trying to accomplish with its

iOS-based platform.

During an interview at CES this year, Jan Brockmann, Electrolux's chief operations officer and R&D head, said the partnership with Google is an attempt to build a foundation that will unify the brand's smart home appliances.

"The alliance of home appliances has to grow across brands and across platforms," Brockmann said.

Electrolux's partnership with Google is a bold move since it's still unknown how successful Brillo will be as a smart home platform. But the collaboration with such a big name shows that Electrolux is taking its smart appliances seriously.
