EE's 30-day plans let you try 4G without commitment

If you fancy taking advantage of some super-charged data speeds but don't want to sign up for a whole year then EE's new service might be just the ticket. You're now able to grab a 30-day contract, allowing you to duck out of your plan after a month if you're not keen. You will be paying a bit extra for the privilege though.

Each 30-day tariff costs an extra £2 per month over their 12-month counterparts. The basic plan costs you £23 per month (£21 on a 12-month contract), for which you'll get 500MB of data -- which, at up 20Mbps speeds, you can burn through in a matter of minutes. At the top end of the spectrum, the £63 tariff (£61 for 12-months) nets you a more usable 20GB of data. All plans provide unlimited calls and texts.

EE's prices are far from rock bottom to begin with, so an extra charge on top might seem like salt in the wound. It's only a small addition though and it's arguably worthwhile if it gives you the flexibility of stepping out of your contract whenever you want.

It's a good solution if you're not sure if you can afford a 4G contract or if you just want to see how much faster it is than your current 3G connection. You're able to sign up, give it a try and then cancel it if you're not convinced. If you do want to make the switch permanent, I recommend changing to a 12-month contract -- those two quids per month will add up to a good few drinks at the end of the year.

Three also offers a 30-day rolling contract with prices starting from £12.90. That nets you 200 minutes, 5,000 texts and unlimited data. While its speeds are well below what EE achieves, you won't need to worry about burning through your allowance, so it might be a better option if you don't keep a close check on your downloads.
