Earthlink reply on email and passwords

CNET staff
Regarding yesterday's report of a reader receiving an email from Earthlink that included his password, we received a reply from an Earthlink Support Tech. It essentially disputes the claim:

"I can assure MacFixIt readers that automated responses to technical inquiries will not include a members password unless the member has included his password in the body of his message to Earthlink. Despite Eathlink's reminders, members will often still include their password even when it has not been requested. Obviously, if our automated response is going to include the members original email message, then it will include everything they have entered.

The only circumstance in which a member will receive usernames and passwords is when the member has requested an additional set of email boxes (Family Pack). In that case they will receive an email informing them of their new usernames and passwords. However, these are generic and must be changed by the member as soon as they receive them to be able to access these new email boxes."
