According to The Wall Street Journal, this new studio will have 60 staff members by the end of 2013. DICE, creator of the Battlefield series, is wholly owned by EA.

EA recently struck a deal with Disney to develop new Star Wars titles for a "core gaming audience".

DICE general manager Karl-Magnus Troedsson told the WSJ that the decision to open in California was due to the "extreme talent pool" in the region.

The news of the new studio comes after EA recently laid off approximately 10 per cent of its staff — or 900 people.
