EA on Nintendo -- 'They deserve to be successful'

Electronic Arts, one of the biggest publishers out there, will bring games to Nintendo's NX console if it sees the system as reaching an "addressable market." This is according to EA executive vice Patrick Soderlund, who said in a new interview Nintendo deserves to have success with its consoles and games.

"Nintendo is such an instrumental part of our whole industry," Soderlund told Game Informer. "They deserve to be successful, and they deserve to be a major player in the business, given their pedigree. It's not only the machines that they've built, but also the IPs they've brought to market. There are very few companies like Nintendo."

Regarding the NX, which is only a codename, Soderlund said he could not share specifics on EA's plans for it given the system has not yet been formally announced. Still, he said, "Whenever they bring something to market that we see an addressable market for, we'll be there."

This matches up with what Soderlund said in May, when he explained that EA would bring games to NX "if it made sense." At the time, he said EA was in "constant communication" with Nintendo.

EA launched several titles for the Wii U early during the platform's life cycle, including Mass Effect 3, Need for Speed Most Wanted, and new installments in the Madden and FIFA franchises. In 2013, EA said that these offerings were indicative of the company making good on its E3 2011 partnership.

EA released just four games for the Wii U. In May 2013, EA confirmed that it had no games in development for Wii U and has stopped releasing games for it. By comparison, the original Wii saw steady support from EA, as the publisher launched 78 total titles for the platform, according to the company's website.

Nintendo's NX, or whatever it ends up being called, is scheduled to go on sale in March 2017. Given that's only seven months away, we'd expect Nintendo to start talking more about the system soon.
