Dyson has just announced more about its plans for a $420 million (£250 million) R&D facility in Wiltshire, UK. That's the largest expansion in the brand's 21-year history.

The first phase of building is expected to be finished in early 2016 and the recruitment process for 1,000 scientists and engineers is already under way. These new hires will work on digital motors, noise-canceling tech, and more -- but that's just the beginning. Dyson hopes to fill as many as 3,000 new jobs by the time construction on the entire R&D compound is complete.

Dyson hasn't shared many details on particular areas of research at this new facility. However, we do know that it will have plenty of space for testing prototypes beyond the brand's traditional vacuums, fans, and hand dryers. It will be interesting to see what new product categories come from this expansion.
