Nine companies announced on Thursday the formation of an industry group to increase the awareness and use of the DVD-RAM format. The RAM Promotion Group members are Hitachi, Hitachi-LG Data Storage, Hitachi Maxell, LG Electronics, Matsushita Electric Industrial, Samsung Electronics, TEAC, Toshiba and JVC.

The group plans to highlight the use of the DVD-RAM format in PCs and consumer-electronics hardware, media, software and other applications. The format is competing with DVD+RW, DVD-R and DVD-RW for the attention and dollars of manufacturers and consumers.
