Two additional items for DVD Player 2.7:

Adaptec UDF Volume Access Extension conflict Apple DVD Player 2.7 conflicts with the Adaptec UDF Volume Access Extension v. 1.0.4, at least on some systems. Warren Dixon writes: "When the Adaptec extension is installed, the DVD Player refuses to play the DVD, occasionally making brief sounds as the DVD attempts to play. Adaptec UDF Volume Access 1.0.4 is the latest version, though it is somewhat dated. The extension is necessary to read CDs produced by Roxio's (formerly Adaptec) DirectCD packet writing software that Apple's UDF Volume Access does not handle. I encountered the problem using Mac OS 9.1 on a single processor 500MHz AGP G4 equipped with a DVD-RAM. Removing the extension allowed DVD's to play properly."

Update: P-M Ericsson writes:"The Adaptec UDF Volume Access extension has been conflicting with Apple DVD Player for quite some time."

Software update and DVD Player 2.7: incorrect update? Jim Norwood writes: "I can confirm the Disk First Aid 8.6.1 update problem in Software update is fixed. However, the updater now wants to install DVD Player 2.7 on my B&W G3. That version of the DVD player is not supported by my machine." Several other users have also noted similar behavior, Software Update attempting to update DVD Player on what are believed to be incompatible machines.
