Duplicate Profile Bug confirmed by Netscape; fix is coming

CNET staff
The last word (for now) on the Netscape Duplicate Profile bug we have been covering this past week: Steve Dagley (Member of the Technical Staff, Netscape Communications) writes: We've identified the cause of the bug. It will be fixed in an upcoming release but I'm not sure of the exact timeframe for release." As to the source of the problem:
"It is related to users that previously had 3.x or earlier installed where their prefs were stored in the 'Netscape °' folder. Due to a change introduced in 4.6 to address a problem in the Windows product with directory names containing non 7-bit ASCII letters, the 'Netscape °' folder on the Mac may be mis-identified. This results in the wrong root folder being found for the profile. Since using the delete files option when removing a profile basically deletes the contents of the profile folder you can get some highly undesirable results when deleting the bogus profile."
