DragThing 4.1: a margin note

DragThing 4.1: a margin note

CNET staff
Every once and a while we come across a bit of functionality that may be so small as to escape notice, but nevertheless is a noteworthy example of good user interface design. Recently we installed and set up DragThing 4.1 on our Mac OS X test machine while running Mac OS 9.2.1. Later, we were pleasantly surprised when we booted Mac OS X and DragThing automatically asked if we wanted to import the Mac OS 9 configuration. When we responded yes, the same Docks we had created previously under 9 instantly appeared, giving us a head start on configuring DragThing for Mac OS X. Yes, we know that importing preferences from a previous version is nothing new, but this is the first instance we've seen of cross compatibility between an application's Mac OS X and Mac OS 9 preferences.

Update: Several users have written to point out other applications that function similarly. Applications such as Eudora 5, Stickies, iCab, and ICQ. (Thanks, Tyler Rosewood, Olivier Jaquemet, and others.)
