You can play as every Doctor Who in Lego Dimensions, and here's the latest trailer
Where else would you find the stars of DC Comics, "The Simpsons", "Jurassic Park", "Ghostbusters", "Doctor Who" and more in one place?
The Doctor has met a lot of interesting characters in his travels through time and space, and he's meeting a few more in forthcoming game Lego Dimensions.
The trailer is released in time for San Diego Comic-Con, the annual convention where science fiction and fantasy movies, TV shows and games are shown off to excited fans. The game is the first from Lego to feature characters from "Doctor Who", and unites various movies, TV shows and comics in a fan-pleasing extravaganza of crossovers that would be impossible outside of the Lego world. Characters from "Jurassic Park", "Scooby-Doo", "Back to the Future" and more join stars from DC Comics, "The Lord of the Rings" and "The Lego Movie".
The current Doctor from the TV show, Peter Capaldi, provides the voice for his animated self. "The demands and the ambition that the game makers have imposed upon themselves are very high," Capaldi told our sister site GameSpot. "They've given themselves the task of creating something that's very entertaining, very exciting and dramatic. If we're just going to use these characters as marketing devices that aren't particularly thought-through or exciting, then no. But that's not where we are, and that's the really exciting thing."
Not only does the current Doctor appear, but you can play as any of the previous Doctors from the show's 52-year history (even the War Doctor, played on TV by John Hurt). When your character dies, you regenerate into the next incarnation of the Time Lord and cycle through the series. One lovely touch is that each Doctor is matched with the Tardis control room from his tenure, from the early black-and-white version to today's epic set. And you can choose which version of the famous theme tune you want too.
Actors Jenna Coleman and Michelle Gomez also reprise their roles from the show as companion Clara and the villainous Missy. "Doctor Who" villains appearing in the game include Daleks and the Cybermen.
Lego Dimensions is on sale on 27 September for Xbox 360, Xbox One, PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4 and Wii U.
