Disney Disappearing Desktop

Disney Disappearing Desktop K Hunt reports that installation of a Disney Interactive program under Mac OS 9 made all of his desktop icons defunct:

"I installed a Disney Interactive program for my 5 year old and the program messed up my computer. Now every time I launch a program, the desktop disappears (my hard drive, aliases for programs, etc.) and my file icons no longer show the program icons."

UPDATE: Several users with a similar problem suggest making sure that the "Show Desktop in Background" option is still on in the General Controls control panel. For some reason, the Disney installation may have unchecked this option.
