My husband and I entertain weekly dinner guests. We and our friends enjoy friendly Iron Chef-style competitions, with dishes like avocado eggrolls and sushi salad frequently found gracing the tables. Of course, presentation counts, but it hadn't quite occurred to me to go so far as to replace my dining room table. Perhaps it's time to reconsider.

The dining desk comes in 13 natural stone and 5 veneer options. Poggenpohl

If you want your next dinner party to be the one everyone talks about for years to come, you need to check out Poggenpohl's new dining desk.

When closed, the desk is a slender dining table that seats 8 to 10. But open the table lengthwise--manually or via an electrical motor--to reveal a center panel that can house stainless steel panels, cutlery trays, or a chopping board, all of which can be arranged in a variety of ways. Stainless steel trolleys roll into place at the ends of the table and provide hot or cold storage for chafing dishes or chilled champagne. You can even use the trolleys to integrate a teppanyaki grill for true tableside service.

The trolleys are beautiful pieces on their own, whether you slide them into position at the table or use them as accent pieces elsewhere in the dining area. And they offer an additional shelf at the bottom of the unit to simplify serving and clearing.

To put together the dining desk, Poggenpohl partnered with Draenert, a German manufacturer specializing in extendable dining tables. The result is a blend of fashion and function that will wow your guests and help you relax in your role as host.

The dining desk comes in the stunning marble featured in the photo, as well as 12 other natural stone options, or choose from five genuine wood veneers to match or contrast with your kitchen cabinets. It's available stateside and can be seen in showrooms across the U.S.
