As listed on this Apple Developers page, the Power Mac G4, iBook and PowerBook Developer documentation have all been updated to reflect the new models introduced this week at Macworld Expo Tokyo.

Of special note, the Power Mac G4 document states that these new models, in addition to having faster processors:

  • Ship with "the latest version of the system software, Mac OS 9.0.1."
  • Include "the ability to start up from a system disk on a FireWire storage device...if the device implements SBP-2 (Serial Bus Protocol) with the RBC (reduced block commands) command set. It is also possible to connect two computers to each other using a FireWire cable, but no software is provided to make use of such a connection."

The document for the new PowerBooks also states support for booting from a FireWire drive and adds: "When connected to another computer by a FireWire bus, the PowerBook computer can operate as a mass storage device."
