DeskTray gone; G4 firmware update confirmed; more

DeskTray is no longer available. According to Ralph Joyce, "the author is no longer developing DeskTop and is accepting no new users for this product. However, he says he will provide support to existing users." G4s now shipping with firmware 2.6 Several readers have now confirmed yesterday's item that new Power Mac G4s are shipping with firmware version 2.6. Brian Swets informs us that his G4 also came with newer versions of some Mac OS software, such as Apple Audio Extension and ATI drivers. These are likely the same versions available via Multi-Media Update 1.0. Update: Brian Swets replies: "Actually, these ATI extensions are between Mac OS 9.0.4 and Multi-Media Update 1.0. They are part of the package called 'Update Mac OS 9 v1.2.'" Fractal Domains 1.3.7 fixes a long standing bug causing crashes in unregistered version of Fractal Domains. Also, a new option was added to the preferences dialog for convenience, allowing the user to specify a default image file format for auto-exporting fractal images.
