Desktop Resetter 2.2.1 expiration glitch fixed The first 2000 downloads of Desktop Resetter 2.2.1 (released recently) had some beta code that was accidentally left in the final that caused it to expire on March 20th 2000. If this has happened to you, you fix it by downloading the fixed upload (still with the same version number). Prank extension causes monitor to dim This MacFixIt Forums thread describes a case where a monitor kept getting darker and darker over time, despite having the brightness repeatedly reset. It turned out to be due to a "prank" extension called OpenTptSerial. Sherlock link glitch with anchors? When using the MacFixIt Sherlock plug-in, we have noticed that, even though the results window lists the full URL of an item, including the anchor tag - the active link is actually just for the page, with no anchor included. At first, we thought this was a bug in Sherlock 2 (since we did not recall seeing it before), but it also happens in the original Sherlock. Then we thought it was a limitation of our particular plug-in. But we have since been informed that this actually a bug/limitation of Sherlock in general. If anyone has more information about this (especially any solutions), please let us know. Upgrading the LinkSys firmware with TFTP software (one more look) Another follow-up on TFTP software that might be used to update a LinkSys router (see previous item): We continue to get additional suggestions of software to try, most recently one called TFTP Daemon. Still, these all seem to be set up as servers - to send/receive files only when requested to do so from another device. Thus, it is not immediately obvious (at least not to us) how to use them to upgrade the router. However, there may be a not-so-obvious way to do it. For example, David Weingart pointed us to this page from Cabletron that describes using a TFTP server application to update their SmartSwitch routers. And Duane Stites cites a similar procedure that can be used for Cisco routers. However, the Cabletron page concludes as follows: "The last step is to have the device you are trying to upgrade initiate the TFTP download. This can be done through Local or Remote Management by SETting the appropriate MIBs." This yet again leaves us unsure how to proceed. For now, unless anyone can provide exact step-by-step instructions on how to apply the LinkSys firmware upgrade using any of these TFTP utilities, we are dropping this matter.
