Definitions for Norton AntiVirus 5.x coming

Definitions for Norton AntiVirus 5.x coming

CNET staff

We have received several complaints from readers that Symantec is failing to deliver new virus definitions for version 5.x of it its Norton AntiVirus package. A Symantec spokesperson let us know that there has been an unexpected delay in the definitions, but they are on the way:

"While Symantec does not offer technical support for versions of Norton AntiVirus for Macintosh prior to version 7.x, we are continuing to provide virus definitions for both versions 6.x and 5.x. Due to unforeseen circumstances there has been an unexpected delay in posting new virus definitions for users of Norton AntiVirus for Macintosh version 5.x. As noted, the 6.x definitions are current as of January 2003. New definitions for 5.x users should be posted in an estimated one to two week time frame.

"Symantec will continue to provide virus definition updates for both 5.x and 6.x versions at least through the summer of 2003. "
