The AlphaServer 4000 5/300 system comes with a single Alpha 21164 300-MHz processor with 2MB onboard cache, Windows NT, 128MB RAM (expandable to 2GB) and 4.3GB hard drive. The AlphaServer 4000 5/400 comes with a 400-MHz Alpha 21164 processor and 4MB onboard cache.
An additional processor can be added to both servers, and upgrades to the 4100 line of products are available. Digital says that the system can be clustered with other AlphaServer systems using OpenVMS Clusters, Unix TruCluster Solutions, or Windows NT clustering capabilities.
Prices for the AlphaServer 4000 5/300 start at $34,500, while the 5/400 will start at $44,500.
In related news, Digital announced that a new 4GB memory option available in January will enable owners of AlphaServer 8400 and 8200 systems to double their memory capacity. Price is expected to be less than $100 per megabyte.
The company also said that prices for the dual-CPU module upgrades for the 8000 line of servers will be reduced by 62 percent. The new price for a dual-CPU 5/440 module with 400-MHz Alpha 21164 processor will now be $65,000 and the price for a dual-CPU 5/300 module with 300-MHz Alpha 21164 processor will now be $40,000.
