Daylight Saving Time issues persist

MacFixIt has previously covered several issues regarding the use of Daylight Saving Time on the Mac (see a, b, c and d for examples). Following the shift to Daylight Saving Time last week, we have received numerous new reports of problems (and solutions):

DST and sleep For starters, a new Apple TIL article (#30951) explains: "For most Mac OS 8.5 users, the Daylight Saving Time adjustment works just fine. Some Mac OS 8.5 users may report that the state of Daylight Saving Time (DST) was adjusted correctly, but the clock was not adjusted. Why is this? This issue has been reported by a few users, who have set up Date & Time Control Panel to automatically adjust for DST. This issue occurs when a machine goes to sleep. When DST switches, users occasionally find the DST check box, which is dimmed, unchecks (or checks), indicating that DST is off, but the clock does not roll back (or forward) an hour. The solution is to set the time manually, or force a network time synchronization. This issue should be fixed in the next update of the Mac OS."

Sundial Player Joe Giannuzzi "noticed that his 2 G3/400's didn't adjust for DST. When checking on this, he also found that the time zone was set incorrectly (from the Date & Time control panel). However, he was unable to change it. He ultimately traced the cause of all of this to Sundial Player 2.01. The solution is to update to Sundial Player 2.03.

DST and HFS Plus issue still remains in some cases? Even though he was running Mac OS 8.5.1 (which supposedly fixes this issue), David Wagner found his Mac "doing a full rebuild of the Find By Content Index for my two HFS Plus volumes" after the shift to DST. Apparently, it thought all the files on these volumes had been modified after the DST adjustment. Alan Harper had the same problem.

DST and Location Manager glitch Alan Harper's PowerBook 2400 automatically adjusted for DST without a problem - at first. However, when he used Location Manager to shift to a different setting, his time reverted back to Standard Time. He found a simple work-around: just open and close the Date & Time control panel. After this, the Location Manager glitch disappeared. If Alan did not put any Time Zone settings in his Location Manager sets, the problem was avoided.
