The only thing that sells out more quickly than the latest iPhone is an M3 coupe with a custom paint job.

In only 12 minutes, 30 aficionados filled up the registration slots to buy the 2011 BMW Frozen Gray M3 Coupes, with at least 50 others as backups should any of the reservation holders fail to buy the 414-hp limited-edition cars, which will ship later this month.

Bragging rights aside, the only thing separating these cars from comparably equipped 2011 BMW M3 Coupes is the paint job and dual-leather interior. While conventional exteriors have gloss finishes, these 25th-anniversary coupes have a metallic luster finish achieved by a silk matte clear coat on top of the gray metallic base coat.

All 30 of the frozen gray M3s will be identically equipped with M Double Clutch Transmission; the competition package, which includes electronic damping control, 19-inch light-alloy wheels, lowered suspension, sport mapping for EDC and DSC; the premium package; technology package; and a few other bells and whistles available for the M3 model.

A comparably equipped M3 with the same trimmings is priced at $74,005, according to the manufacturer's Web site. Factor in the one-day enrollment at BMW Performance Driving School in Spartanburg, South Carolina, and it's not such a bad deal for the $77,600 ride.
