Korean company Cowon tends to fly under the radar here in Oz, but it sure does make some sexy-looking MP3 players. Exhibit A: the S9.

The just-announced S9 is also known as the Curve. Coming soon to Australia, this touchscreen player features a 3.3-inch (8.38-centimetre), 480x272-pixel AMOLED display, FM radio, Bluetooth and a voice recorder. Battery life is rated at 40 hours continuous music playback.

TV-out and an accelerometer — the feature du jour for MP3 players — are thrown in for kicks, and the whole shebang is powered by a 500MHz dual-core processor. Storage-wise, the S9 will be available in 8GB and 16GB models.

There's no set Australian release date or price just yet, so it remains to be seen whether the Curve will be a formidable competitor to the second-gen iPod Touch in the fight for shopping dollars this holiday season. The photos certainly make the S9 look like an object of tech-head desire, but we'll reserve judgement until we get it in for review in the next few weeks.
