Copy to Zip drive hangs in OS 9.2.1

David Ahrens reports getting a freeze when transferring data to his internal Iomega Zip 250 on a Power Mac G4 running Mac OS 9.2.1. There was no problem when using Mac OS 9.1 or OS X 10.1.1. Changing to different versions of the Iomega software had no effect. He contacted Iomega about this and received this reply:

"Please note that Iomega does not support Zip 250 ATAPI drive to be used on Mac OS 9.2.1. Iomega supports using Zip 250 ATAPI drive on Mac OS 8.5-9.0 only."

A possibly related previous item regarding SCSI Jaz drives (see our 9.2 Report) suggests that Apple CD/DVD Driver 1.4.7 may be involved.

Update: Despite all this, a reader replies: "I have no problem using my 250 MB ATAPI Zip drive under 9.2.1. I did have to switch the load order of the Iomega driver and the Apple Internal modem extension to avoid a startup problem, but all has worked fine since then." A second reader now reports success.
