Conflict between VST Zip drives and FWB's Hard Disk ToolKit?

Mark Yannuzzi writes: "My new VST Zip drive would cause my G3 Series PowerBook to freeze at startup when mounted in the left-bay, but would work in the right-bay." He suspected FWB's Hard Disk ToolKit was involved because HDT would quit with a Type 2 error only when the Zip drive was in the left bay. VST tech support told him that "HDT drivers cause problems with all of VST's Zip drives (and other IDE drives, not just the PowerBook G3 Series)."

After he reinitialized the PowerBook's drive with Apple's Drive Setup v1.4, the problem vanished.

Update: Charlie Conway reminds me that there is a long-standing recommendation not to use HDT with any Iomega product. This is covered in an Apple TIL file from 1997 and has also been mentioned previously here on MacFixIt.
