Confirmation for AirPort firmware reversion workaround

We previously reported that reverting to an earlier version of the AirPort Express firmware resolves some issues that are introduced by the 6.1.1 firmware. The issues include an inability to use the Airport Admin or Setup Assistant tool, loss of Internet access, and more.

Several users have since confirmed this workaround.

Graham Donaldson writes "Thank you for the fix to restore the previous version of the AE FW. After updating the AE FW to 6.1.1, I could no longer print to my Epson C84 (which worked even after updating to 10.3.7). Restoring the previous firmware using your procedure worked perfectly."

Another reader writes "After the update my Airport Express would flash orange even though it was pulling an IP and connecting me. And after changing profiles it would disappear from the airport admin utility, even though I was still connected to the internet through it. [...] If I didn't change anything after a reset, the Airport Express would show up on my airport admin utility, and I could connect to AirTunes but nothing else. If I unchecked the distribute IP addresses, I could connect to the web or anything else except AirTunes [...] Anyway, after the firmware downgrade everything worked fine again, and knowing I could always revert to it again, I tried the update again. This time it worked without any problems."

Meanwhile, MacFixIt reader Andrew Platt reports that he had to temporarily turn off his AirPort Extreme Base Station, then restore power for proper operation:

"I installed the 5.5.1 firmware update on a 733 MHz G4, no real problems, but I did need to switch off airport and switch it on again before I could see any base stations. Other than that, a hassle-free upgrade."
