Game maker Popcap today revealed Plants vs. Zombies Adventures (PvZA) beta for Facebook, but gamers might be more interested in the mention of Plants vs. Zombies 2.
The social spinoff PvZA takes gardeners out of the backyard (the primary setting in the first game) and sends them on the road to fight off ravenous zombies. To freshen up gameplay, Popcap enhanced the title with new plants, zombies, and defenses, as well as the implementation of social features that include leaderboards and community challenges.
Inside Social Games spoke with Popcap during the Game Developer Conference this week in San Francisco. The blog discovered that PvZA deviates from the usual straight-line gameplay, as zombies come at the player from multiple directions.
Unlike the original, PvZA players increase the available pool of resources by constructing buildings in their town. PvZA players can visit a friend's town and launch a zombie attack against a building, and that person can only launch an attack once per day (unless they pony up real cash, which opens the door for additional zombie attacks).
While the beta version launches today, Popcap plans to deliver the game to a larger audience later this spring.
Unfortunately, there isn't much information to report about Plants vs. Zombies 2, as Popcap briefly mentioned that the game arrives around "early summer."
