Kevin Sorbo's Hercules was never this cool. God of War rocks.
The hands-down best game for July came early in the month, but we're pretty sure we'll be playing this modern classic for a while longer yet. God of War is a tight, compelling and exciting action adventure, and is a definite must-have for PlayStation 2 owners. And after you've taken on wave after wave of Ares' twisted minions, why not switch gears and sing along with Delta in Singstar Pop?. This latest entry in the Singstar series is the best yet, featuring a great song list, more party and duet modes, and even rap scoring. Plus it has Born To Be Wild by Steppenwolf -- what more could you ask for?

Strategy fans should look to Imperial Glory for their next fix. Set in the Napoleonic era, the game has pretty comprehensive diplomacy features, and while its real time battles aren't to the level of Total War, it should still hook anyone with an interest in that explosive period of Western history. Rounding off July's list is Virtual Pool -- it's pool, it's virtual, and that's about it. But for the bargain price of AU$39.95, there's no better way to get practice in before you hit the pub or pool hall for the real thing.

God of War
PlayStation 2
Kratos, the lead character in PlayStation 2 action title God of War, is cool. Not sitting in an inner-city bar, sipping Bacardi Breezers type of cool. But unstoppable one-man army, stare-death-in-the-eyes-and-sneer-type of cool.

Singstar Pop
PlayStation 2
Chalk up three wins for the Singstar series. Singstar Pop is fun and is a great party game, with the large number of local artists a major plus.

Imperial Glory
PC
If you've spent nights awake plotting how Napoleon could have done better during his invasion of Russia, then you probably need to spend some more time outdoors. You'll also probably geek out over Imperial Glory, the latest real time strategy (RTS) game to hit the market.

Virtual Pool
Xbox
Virtual Pool: Tournament Edition certainly carries its 'virtual' tag well, as it's an ultra-realistic rendition with believable real world physics.
