Cisco partners with Qwest on Code Red fix

CNET staff
Cisco Systems sent us the following note regarding the effects of Code Red on their routers:

"We have since partnered with Qwest on this issue and are replying with the following template:

      Dear Customer,

Qwest and Cisco are working together to protect customers from the Code Red and Code Red II Virus/Worms.

Currently, the best known way of protecting your Cisco 67x against the Code Red and Code Red II worms is to change the port number used by this server to some number in the range of 1025 to 9999. While this web server is not a Microsoft IIS server, and cannot itself become infected by the worm, it is negatively affected by the worm's attempts to infect other hosts.

Qwest is offering detailed Code Red fix procedures on their website. To obtain detailed instructions on how to disable the Web Server and change the Port number on the 67x, please go to the this URL and follow the instructions found there.

Note: Our 2.4.2 access codes are about to expire."

We have also updated on Code Red MacFixIt Report to include this information.
