With the recent slew of releases from Apple, it's important to note a commonplace cause of system slowdown and other issues that can regularly accompany installation of system updates -- the re-enabling of all fonts.

In many cases, updates will cause all fonts to be turned on. This can also happen when caches are cleaned with one of the various Mac OS X maintenance utilities or the user boots into safe mode.

Fortunately, the problem is easily remedied by opening the Font Book application (located in /Applications) and again disabling the desired fonts. Creating a custom library -- using the New Library command from the File menu in Font Book, will allow you to quickly revert to a given set of fonts.
