When I boot up with two CD-ROM drives (one of which is the Apple removable CD-ROM module for the PowerBook G3 series), an alert appears at startup stating that two copies of CDT are installed, and the CDT icon is then crossed out. The PowerBook then freezes shortly thereafter.
FWB replied:
Our CDT engineers were able to successfully re-create the issue you described. We are continuing our testing and we hope to have an immediate resolution to this issue. Please keep posted on our web site for more information.Update: Guy Keymolen had this same symptom except that he has only one CD-ROM drive (and only one copy of the extension installed).
CD-ROM ToolKit and clones Meanwhile, several readers running Mac OS 8.6 or Mac OS 9.0 on Mac clones have reported problems getting CD-ROM ToolKit to work. FWB's standard reply is to place the blame on the Mac OS itself:
The problem you have described may be due to an incompatibility between your clone machine and OS 8.6. Mac OS 8.6 is not a currently supported operating system running on any machine with the exception of a Apple Macintosh. The last OS that Apple supported running on Clone machines was OS 8.1. This is not to say that it will not run, but you are running the software at your own risk. The majority of the problems that we've seen at FWB have been related to CD-ROM functionality and the presence of 8.6 (and now presumably 9.0) is the common theme...
CD-ROM SpeedTools also has problems with clones? Dan Tharp similarly had a problem with Intech's CD-ROM SpeedTools 4.1 on his Power Tower clone, running either Mac OS 8.6 or 9.0. His Mac would freeze when attempting to eject a CD. He contacted Intech about this and they replied that "We're beginning to notice problems with OS 9 on G3 upgraded machines."
