Cat-attracting pants promise to make you popular with the kitty crowd
Entice felines to hang out with you by donning a pair of jeans designed both to amuse cats and protect your legs.
You can douse yourself in tuna juice or stuff your pockets full of catnip, but it's hard to get into the good graces of a truly aloof feline. Perhaps these pants are the magic answer.
"Wear the jeans and you will become popular among cats," reads the product description for a pair of Cat-attracting Jeans.
The jeans come from Japanese retailer Felissimo, the same people who brought us the scent of a cat's forehead bottled into a fabric spray. The pants are a collaboration with manga artist Rinrin Yamano, who is known for drawing cats. The butt pocket features a stylized cat-face decoration.
One of the most noticeable design features is a series of denim ridges covering the front pockets, which are located on the thighs. The overlapping fabric is built to resist cat-claw punctures. Every person who has lived with a cat knows how painful a pointy claw can be. The all-cotton denim is thick all over to help protect your sensitive skin.
The jeans come with a special loop on the back to hold an included clip-on cat tail-shaped toy. You can either wear it on your backside in an attempt to disguise yourself as a feline (good luck) or clip it somewhere where it dangles down and tempts your cat buddies into playtime.
The jeans sell for about $65 (£45, AU$89). The scratch-defying pants are machine washable, but you will need to remove the tail first. The fit appears to be high-waisted, giving them a "mom jeans" sort of look. The pants may not be high-fashion, but who cares about that when you can comfortably have cats dangling off your thighs?
Felissimo knows cats can be fickle, so it gives this warning to potential buyers: "We expect most of the cats love this pair of jeans but the actual response of cats might vary." If your fancy pants are met with indifference from your cats, don't be too sad about it. It's them, not you.
