Capturing DV data over FireWire

Regarding which FireWire cameras work well for downloading data to a FireWire drive, Thomas Maler received the following top from El Gato (and confirmed by VST): "Capturing DV data to a FireWire disk works fine on the iMac DV, the G4 Macs and the VST PC card. No lost frames. It also works reasonably well on the G3 Macs. We have seen problems with certain Canon camcorders, but all of the Sony cameras we've tested worked perfectly. If you have a VST drive you may want to download VST's free updater, VST Format 2.0.1. It is equivalent to Disk Control 1.0.1."

Meanwhile, Jonathan Berger found that, while the JVC 70 digital camcorder has a FireWire port, it stops recording when one tries to export video to the camera from a Mac.

Apple adds: "Some DV camcorders may not be recognized immediately when you connect them to one of your FireWire ports. If your computer does not recognize your DV camcorder, turn the camcorder off and then on again to establish a connection."
