After several delays, Canon will reportedly deliver updated Mac OS X 10.2.x-compatible driver for various scanner models including the N1220U. Glenn Kardy writes:

"For several weeks I have been exchanging e-mails with the support staff at Canon USA for information regarding the promised release of an OSX-native driver for the Canon N1220U scanner. For most of the year, Canon's Website indicated that the driver would be released in October. The information on the website has been changed to indicate that the driver will now be released in November."

"Today (Nov. 5) I received a personal email message from Mr. Lee Muratori, Product Support Manager for Scanners at Canon USA, who says he is 'the person who receives the schedule and drivers from Canon Inc. in Japan.' Mr. Muratori indicated that he 'received a project update and the driver will bereleased next week.' In addition, Mr. Muratori promised me that he is 'doing as much as we can for you by sending the driver via Federal Express to you when I receive it."

Accordingly, it appears that a supported driver for the Canon N1220U (and other models), which was released only days before the widespread release of Mac OS X, will hit the Web before the middle of November. We will provide a download link as soon as the new driver is posted.

Canon previously posted, then removed, the Canon ScanGear CS 7.0.1 driver, which is still available from VersionTracker. Some users reported that ScanGear CS 7.0.1 delivers limited functionality for the N1220U, but causes problems when Classic is running - even though the N1220U is not a model listed as being supported by the driver.
