EMAILS
Hello Buzz Crew,
I know Netflix wants the DVD-by-mail business to go away, but it looks like Qwikster died a whole lot faster than anticipated.
The problem for Netflix is that DVD-by-mail is still part of their product offering, and they can’t figure out how to get rid of it while keeping consumers happy. Netflix can’t move everyone to streaming without quality content, but the studios just aren’t going to play ball if Netflix is the only player on the team. They need to form a consortium of content providers – Netflix, Hulu, Amazon, Crackle(?) – with the goal of getting competitive streaming rights for all the industry’s players for the content consumers actually want.
Let the services differentiate themselves on advertising vs. subscription models, platform availability, mobile, etc. Netflix would be giving up much of their position in the streaming market, but success here would mean tremendous growth for the market as a whole.
LOVE the show!

Hey BOL Bunch,
Just a quick message to let you all know, Monday this week was awful without BOL to listen to. I can’t wait until Thursday. Also, as a long time listener I appreciate your coverage of Apple events and making even a keynote fun. Even though Steve Jobs could do this on his own, we of course couldn’t watch those. If it was not for your entertaining coverage of those events, I would have not have appreciated how awesome he was, his love of the products he brought to us, and all his accomplishments.
Thanks for being awesome yourselves, and you guys could make watching corn grow entertaining.
Sasha
