Lytro's Founder and CEO Ren Ng Ph.D. stopped by the BOL studio today to discuss his new product the Lytro Light Field Camera which allows you to focus different depths of field within one photograph. We picked his brain about how the technology works and how it will evolve into the art of photography and beyond. We also discuss the FTC's probe into Google's business practices as well as the upcoming possible overhaul of the United States Patent office rules and regulations. Lulzsec continues to make news and publish the identity of its victims while a rival hacker group calling themselves TeaMp0ison has vowed to out the members of Lulzsec by publishing Lulzsec's identities and personal information in retaliation. In Episode 1495 you were complaining that your Android phone doesn’t “”just work”" as the IPhones do. Just so you know, Apple’s issues tend to be more severe. My wife and I have been IPhone users for two generations now, currently using the IPhone 4. During that time, we’ve had a phone lock-up to need a hard-hard reset from the Apple store, which included a BIOS flash Then, one of our phone speakers went out twice in 6 months, which meant we needed a new phone each time, backing it up and restoring it. Next, the ITunes player stopped working suddenly, requiring me to go into the Apple store yet again so an associate could reinstall some elements of the OS (not sure what he did). Recently, I had an issue where suddenly my IPhone wouldn’t sync until I deleted all my voice notes I recently made (without the ability to back them up). This doesn’t include the countless times I need to restart applications because they suddenly freeze up when brought back from hybernation.

Point is its a machine. The solution for Apple is to take it to the Apple store and get it fixed (drive there, wait for a stool, wait for it to be fixed, drive home). The Android solution seems like more work, but I bet you could probably fix it faster than the time it takes to drive to an Apple store (for me a 30 minute drive one way).

My next phone will be an Android.
