With all the talk of how mobile Internet has been a tool for freedom in the past year contrasted with the debade over badwidth caps verses reinvesting profits in infrastructure, I was interested to read the following tweet about the severe earthquake in Christchurch, NZ.
“Civil Defence is asking not to use their mobiles to send video because it is clogging up the networks and emergency services need bandwidth”"

Hey Buzz Crew,

I am currently a student at the University of Michigan, and thought that I could shed some light into the setup of personal a WiFi network. Here, there is a(n) (almost) campus wide WiFi network, that every student can access. While some of the dorms do not have WiFi, and still have to utilize Ethernet cables, it is strictly forbidden to set up your own network. If you do setup a network it may result in a fine or even being kicked out of the dorms. On a side note, upperclassmen usually suggest that students go to Starbucks to do their pirating, as the University networks are closely monitored by the MPAA and RIAA.

Love the show,

BREAKUP STORIES

Hey BOL crew, heres my break up story. Let me set the scene, I was in my 3rd semester of college, she was a senior in high school (homeschooled) and worked with her father for his business, on top of being home schooled by him. We had been dating about 6ish months. I was at a school about 4 hours away so it was a long distance relationship. She did a really good job of keeping up with my schedule to find time to go on dates and stuff, but due to her life being really hectic, had completely forgotten about my spring break, which was also the week of her birthday. Knowing this I had gotten with her mother to arrange for me to show up in the morning, surprise her, and steal her away for the day. The night before this happened, her father heard of this plan and squashed it, and then told my girlfriend at the time that she “”didn’t have time for a boyfriend.”" and that was that. Now, heres the kicker, I kinda saw this coming because a month or 2 before this, I had done an OS re-install on his laptop, and he walked me through all the information that he wanted me to back up, the computer ran great and all was happy. Until about 2 weeks later when he discovered that all his bookmarks in internet explorer were gone forever. From that point till the break up he spoke about 9 words to me, and I could always tell he was mad. So, what ended my first (and to this point only) relationship? A bunch of IE bookmarks. Moral of the story, if you’re working on a loved one’s computer, make them an Xmarks account first.

Love the show!

VOICE MAIL

Heya BOLers –

Thought I’d share my story of an ill-fated relationship that involved not one but two classic break-up songs. It all started one Saturday morning when I was vacuuming my apartment to a little classic rock and my girlfriend popped up on AIM and asked what I was doing. I told her that I was listening to “”Freebird”" by Lynyrd Skynyrd. She told me that she didn’t know the song, so without even thinking about what it was about I copied the lyrics into AIM for her. After 10 minutes of silence I sent her the old triple question mark and she told me that she had been crying because she had thought that this was my clever way of breaking up with her. I had to spend the next half hour convincing her that I was not the least bit clever and was only listening to the song for the guitar solo.

I did finally convince her, but unfortunately that wasn’t the end of the story, because a few months later, she broke up with ME, by ironically sending me the lyrics to “”Sometimes Love Just Ain’t Enough”" By Patty Smyth and Don Henley over AIM. I tried to respond with “”All You Need is Love”" by the Beatles, but to no avail. Anyway, it’s funny now. Love the show.

BOL Team,
My break up story involves a nerdy woman I met one summer & spent the next 4yrs in love. … After 4yrs of being together people began to ask when might be the time to ask the question. I had been looking long & hard for a ring & had found a few that might have worked. I just wanted that very special ring. One night during our fourth year of dating she was driving & said she wanted to stop at a music store called Coconuts. … She was looking for a CD by James Ingram & found it. We went back to her place her dad was there & asked to talk to me in private. She told me to go ahead & when I returned she would play something for me. … Her dad & I spoke of the future & where we might be. The need to plan for it & save for it. He also gave me the name of a jeweler he knew who could help in the ring search & her ring size. He also said he'd pay for the wedding & the honeymoon in Europe. After we finished talking & he left she played a song for me. … It was 'I don't have the heart' by James Ingram. After it was done I tried to talk to her. She simply said she wasn't in love with me the way I was in love with her anymore. I tried to understand, however her mind was made up & she showed me to the door. I called to talk to her about this & she just hung up. … As of yet 'I don't have the heart' to love another nerd less she break my heart again even after 12yrs. A non-nerd maybe just not a nerd. I feel better getting this story in the open.

Love the show! By the way what is the new acronym for the hosts? MBB?
