Buzz Out Loud 1371: Zuckerberg: Man of the Year? Well, yeah, actually. (podcast)

Our response to Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg being named Time's Person of the Year? Um, actually, that kind of makes sense. Also, Yahoo makes some deep cuts, but the tech community rallies with job offers and free beer. And Gawker's password mess proves once again (as if you needed any proof) that you really, really, REALLY shouldn't poke the bear. We told you so. --Molly

Ron: the problem with cloud games

Email (buzz@cnet.com)

Hey Buzz crew,

I don’t understand why all of sudden everyone hates a stylus on tablets?

For years we tablet pc users enjoy pressure-sensitive digital ink for softwares such as Autodesk SketchBook and Microsoft OneNote.
Some of us actually *use* tablets on a day-to-day basis for business you know…. not *just started to experiment* for enterprise use.

Plus it’s not like stylus and multitouch can’t be co-existed on a same screen.

Anyways, love the show,

Sam,
Toronto

Dear Buzz Crew,

For the past two years, we’ve been saving over $140 per year on two Blackberry cell-phones by merely opting out of SMS Txt Messaging, and blocking all SMS texts to our phones.

Since text messaging is essentially e-mail (which is already part of our Blackberry plans), we simply send texts to our friends using the “”phonenumber@phoneservice.com”" address formats (ie phonenumber@vtext.com for Verizon). You can find out how to send e-mails to SMS phones via Google.

When we add cell phone contacts to our phones, we find out which carrier the person uses, and add that SMS address to their e-mail contact information. We then send the person an SMS e-mail to their phone and tell them add and use the incoming e-mail address when texting.

Although it seems like a few extra steps, we’re not out of the text messaging loop with our contacts, we’re saving what would be almost an extra month of service for both phones every year, and as an international traveler, I’m not incurring roaming text fees for SMS Spam and low priority text messages.

As Molly says: “”It’s all just data! …just sayin’!”"

Thanks for a great show!
