BuyMusic to join Buy.com

Online song store BuyMusic.com will be folded "within several days" into the larger Buy.com e-commerce site, according to an e-mail sent to customers on Thursday.

The Web-based store, started by Buy.com founder Scott Blum, was the first Windows-based download service to launch in the wake of Apple's successful iTunes Music store. It has been somewhat overshadowed by later entrants such as Napster, and by the prospect of future rivals from giants such as Microsoft, Sony and Virgin Music.
