We had to scratch our heads and do some linking around when we saw that Technorati's No. 1 search term--a title that for weeks has been held by "Impeach Bush"-- now belongs to, of all things, "Burger King commercial."

BK commercial

For those non-football fans (or perhaps non-commercial TV fans), don't worry. You haven't missed out on a major pop culture event, just a clever but arguably over-hyped NFL-themed TV commercial for the fast food giant's Angus Steak Burger. At least one version of the commercial was created with the Web in mind. At the end, you can click to sign up for a promotional offer and a contest.

Bloggers weighed in on the commercial, itself, some airing fears about what they called the "creepy" King who intercepts a pass and makes a touchdown. But they seemed just as passionate about what the commercial's online ubiquity says about the blogosphere--and Technorati.

Blog community response:

"Is there an advertiser gaming Technorati?...Are there really that many people out there lusting (I didn't want to say hungry) for this information? Or has some clever monkey found an effective but despicable way to build buzz? Because really guys, if so, that's cheating."

"What (is Burger King) announcing, that they are responsible for a percentage of the rampant obesity that's taken a hold of this nation in plague-like proportions? Or do they have a new 'ginormous' breakfast sandwich that tops the 1,000 calorie mark, therefore making it a more complete breakfast."

"Too many bloggers are on crack, or suffering from extreme munchies, if a BK commercial has garnered their attention. And yes, I know full well that by my mentioning the key words of the current top 10, I am going to be getting traffic driven to my site, but I fear that is the price one must pay."
