When Mac OS X 10.5.7 was released, one problem some users started to experience was Buffalo external hard drives no longer working. Even though there is still no direct fix, there have been a couple of updates of what to expect from Buffalo on this issue.

One of the moderators at the Buffalo support forums wrote: both Apple and Buffalo are aware of the incompatibility with 10.5.7, and are working to resolve the issue.

Hopefully, a fix will be out soon, but meanwhile affected users can regularly check in on this Buffalo forum thread for updates to the Buffalo drive problem.

There is indication, however, that a fix might take a while to be released. In another Buffalo thread a user quoted an e-mail reply from Buffalo technical support:

"I'm afraid that the problem is something that we are currently working with engineers to get a firmware update for, But as it stands, it would seem to be a problem with 10.5.7 exclusively, so there might be a little bit of a wait for a fix."

Others have had replies stating that Buffalo does not support the Mac OS, so all these reports together suggest addressing Mac problems is close to the bottom of Buffalo's priority list. As such, if you have updated and are experiencing problems with your Buffalo drive, you can either put it aside for the long wait, revert to 10.5.6 as described in our how-to article, or use another computer to transfer your data from the Buffalo drive to a new external drive.
