Performa 550 upgrade comes without needed video RAM?

Last March, we wrote about the bargain upgrades Apple offered "consumers who bought its entry-level Performa computers (550 or 560), settling government charges it misrepresented the machines in its advertising."

Well, Norman Spangler recently got one of these upgrades. However, he was dismayed that it "failed to include the video RAM chips necessary to successfully complete the upgrade." He claims that Apple Tech Support told him that "the failure to ship the video RAM is a 'known issue' and all purchasers of 550 upgrades are to be notified by mail in the 'near future' that the necessary video RAM will be shipped under separate cover. Tech Support said no date for shipment has been announced."
