<b>Out of memory problem in Excel 98: a follow-up

Regarding the out of memory problem with Excel 98, mentioned here last time, two readers (Bob Bousfield and Paul Witting) assert that the problem is due to Mac OS Easy Open (MEO), possibly in combination with the DataViz libraries that ship with Mac OS 8. Bob found that updating to MacLinkPlus 9.7.1 fixed the problem. Trashing MEO's Preferences file may also help. Otherwise, simply disable MEO. This all sounds related to a similar problem with MEO, MacLinkPlus and Word 98, covered here before.
